After owning a few portable jump starters from DBpower, it was time to check out and review their latest, and best mini jump starter to date. It’s the DBPOWER G15 2500A. It has a huge 21800mAh internal battery. It may be small in size but it can jump-start car 8.0L gas engine or 6.5L diesel engine.

How to Recharge DBPower G15 Car booster.

Make sure to charge this micro-jump starter at least once every 4 months. This will avoid shortening its lifespan. Keeping the battery pack topped up will reduce the battery from completely depleting over time. If you do use it to charge phones and tablets, it’s also a great idea to top it up.

Don’t keep it plugged into the charge port for extended periods of time. Just recharge and disconnect.
Try to store your car booster pack in a cool and protected place. Extreme temperatures may damage the internal battery. Under a passenger or driver’s seat or in the glove box are ideal locations.

Warnings:

If your car battery booster pack has less than 25% charge capacity, it may not be able to start your engine. This is because car starter motors require a large sustained in rush of current. With a nearly depleted lithium-ion jump starter, the reserve capacity will not be enough to start your vehicle.
Do not connect the positive and negative polarity together when it’s powered on.

How To Jump start a car

You can use this 2500A booster pack to jump start your car.

1. Press the On/Off button and make sure your battery capacity is over 25% charged. Fully charged is the best for full power starting
2. Insert the jumper cables into the 12v output jumping port.
3. Connect the red clamp to the positive (+) terminal, and the black cable clamp to the negative terminal (-)
4. Start your car with the key.

Jump starting a Toyota Prius

Most gasoline or petrol cars will have the same procedure for boosting a flat battery. Where this change is if you have a hybrid car, like the Toyota Prius. It’s a slightly different procedure.

Basically, you have to locate the fuse box, which is on the right-hand side in the engine bay. Remove the cover and then find the main red battery terminal. Open the red flap, shown below and put your jump starter positive lead onto it.

Connect the negative to a metal part of the car, and you are good to try to jump-start your Toyota Prius. Once your car has started you can disconnect your starter leads and put the fuse cover back on. 

This DBpower 2500A is the perfect jump starter for your Prius. This is due to the smaller 1.8L engine, so it is well-sized for the job. So why do I recommend it, well it worked for a guy at work who had a flat auxiliary battery in his Prius and needed a jump start.

I’m against using pure jumper cable leads, as so much can go wrong and there is no safety protection. So I just grabbed my micro-jump starter made by DBpower and put it on and we got it started. He was so amazed. I just gave it to him for a few days while he went to get his battery replaced.

DBPower 2500A Peak 21800mAh portable review

After using this unit for a few months I can honestly say it’s a great quality unit. I had given it to the kids to use for our road trip. They used it in the car to charge their phones and tablets a few times each day. By giving the compact starter a top-up each night, we could make sure it never missed a beat over the 7-day road trip. They thought it was one of the best mini jump starters they had ever used due to the compact size. Before we used a larger model which sometimes just was awkward and heavy.

Our Toyota Corolla is under 2.5L engine size so we were able to test it out using an old battery we installed into the car to simulate a flat battery.

The car fired up fast with plenty of power. We tried it a few more times and there was no loss of power from this little pocket-sized car battery jumper. The only problem i have doing tests like these is having to reprogram my car radio again.

Recharging the unit was simple and easy from either a phone wall outlet charger or the car cigarette lighter port if you have one.
