If you look after your Jet ski it will look after you. This means doing some basic preventative maintenance every 12 months. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Sea-doo 4Tec Rotax engine is a very robust and powerful motor. To keep it in peak performance you will need to replace the spark plugs every year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Tools Needed <\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/amzn.to\/2Qu7SdA\" rel=\"nofollow\">3\/8 Socket set with extension bar<\/a><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/amzn.to\/2QmfO0i\" rel=\"nofollow\">13\/16 inch spark plug socket<\/a><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/amzn.to\/2MwHRZS\" rel=\"nofollow\">NGK Spark Plugs DCPR8E \/ 4339<\/a> x3 &#8211; All Sea-Doo makes\/model spark plug chart further down.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Pliers<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/amzn.to\/2rsCaEO\" rel=\"nofollow\">Dow corning 111 Molykote 111 Compound <\/a>for moisture proofing the coils.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Rags<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Can of compressed air<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Time approx 1\/2 hour.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Procedure for Sea-doo GTI 130 spark plug change <\/h2>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"500\" height=\"375\" src=\"https:\/\/notsealed.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/12\/spark-plug-coils.jpg\" alt=\"Sea-doo GTI 130 HP spark plug and coils\" class=\"wp-image-4851\" srcset=\"https:\/\/notsealed.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/12\/spark-plug-coils.jpg 500w, https:\/\/notsealed.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/12\/spark-plug-coils-300x225.jpg 300w, https:\/\/notsealed.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/12\/spark-plug-coils-80x60.jpg 80w, https:\/\/notsealed.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/12\/spark-plug-coils-265x198.jpg 265w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 500px) 100vw, 500px\" \/><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n<p>I like to replace the spark plugs on my <a href=\"https:\/\/notsealed.com\/how-to-winterize-sea-doo-gti-se-130-jet-ski.html\">GTI 130 every time I winterize it.<\/a> So this means I take them out and put new ones in during my yearly maintenance. The plugs you require are&nbsp;NGK SPARK PLUGS DCPR8E \/ 4339.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>You will need a long socket extension as these spark plugs are deep down in the engine block. 5 inches and above will work well. The longer the better.<\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"500\" height=\"375\" src=\"https:\/\/notsealed.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/12\/spark-plug-extension.jpg\" alt=\"3\/8 socket extension for removing spark plugs from Sea-Doo Rotax 4Tec engine\" class=\"wp-image-4852\" srcset=\"https:\/\/notsealed.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/12\/spark-plug-extension.jpg 500w, https:\/\/notsealed.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/12\/spark-plug-extension-300x225.jpg 300w, https:\/\/notsealed.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/12\/spark-plug-extension-80x60.jpg 80w, https:\/\/notsealed.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/12\/spark-plug-extension-265x198.jpg 265w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 500px) 100vw, 500px\" \/><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n<ol>\n<li>Disconnect the spark plug ignition coil connectors.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Remove the ignition coils by twisting and pulling them up. They will be a little stiff.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Use a can to squeeze compressed air into the spark plug housing to blow out any old dirt, oil, or water.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Use a 13\/16 spark plug socket to remove the plugs. Turning anticlockwise will remove them. If they haven&#8217;t been removed in a while they may be rusted in tight.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Lift the spark plugs using one of the ignition coils. Just press the coil over the spark plug to lift them out. Use XPS to spray a small squirt into the cylinder block. This will coat the cylinder to prevent rust on the bore if winterizing it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>7. Leave the plugs out and crank over the engine. This will lube up the piston rings as well. Use a rag over the plug holes to capture any excess lube. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>8. Use some never seize compound on the spark plug threads to make removal easy next time. Reinsert the new spark plugs making sure that the spark plug gap is set to 0.03 inches. I have yet to find one out of specifications but bet to be careful. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>10. Hand tighten your spark plugs to make sure you don&#8217;t cross-thread any of them. Then use a socket wrench to tighten an extra 1\/4 to 1\/2 turn. The instructions on the spark plug packaging will explain how much to tighten. For me, these plugs were 1\/2 turn after hand tight. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>11. Insert the ignition coils and line up the connection points and plug them in. Smooth over any excess Down Corning 111 paste.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Congratulations you have just replaced your spark plugs on your Sea-Doo 130HP Jet-Ski. You must change all three if doing a spark plug replacement.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>They tend to rust in over time so change them out every year. It is a small cost to pay for peace of mind.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">How often should you change Jet Ski spark plugs?<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>You should change the spark plug in a Jet Ski every year or 25 hours whichever comes first. These are cheap consumable items that will fail and rust if you don&#8217;t change them out regularly.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Problems you may encounter.<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Stuck Spark Plug<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>If the spark plugs have not been removed for a while they may be rusted in position. Try warming up the engine first and then try to remove the plugs. If they are still stuck you will have to use a breaker bar.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Sometimes in extreme circumstances, the spark plug will break or snap. You will have to then use an <strong>easy out<\/strong> to remove the plug. Usually, this comes from a failed rocker cover gasket and it is leaking engine oil into the spark plug area.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If it is only a small amount it is not a big deal. But if it is allowed to cover the ceramic part of the spark plug you can get a misfire on that cylinder. This is because the spark tracks into the engine oil. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>You will need a new rocker cover gasket to fix. Otherwise, just drain the oil from the spark plug area after every few rides. A can of air and a rag works great.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Ignition coil hard to remove<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>If you don&#8217;t use Dow corning 111 Molykote 111 Compound the ignition coils can be hard to remove. Make sure to use this as it will also stop water and dirt from getting into the spark plug area.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If you find that the ignition coil is swelling up this means there is corrosion or failure of the coil and it will need to be replaced.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Conclusion<\/h2>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"500\" height=\"359\" src=\"https:\/\/notsealed.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/12\/dcpr8e-plug.jpg\" alt=\"DCPR8E 4339 spark plug sea-doo gti 130\" class=\"wp-image-4859\" srcset=\"https:\/\/notsealed.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/12\/dcpr8e-plug.jpg 500w, https:\/\/notsealed.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/12\/dcpr8e-plug-300x215.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 500px) 100vw, 500px\" \/><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n<p>If you have everything ready to go the Seadoo GTI 130 spark plug change removal process should only take 1\/2 hour.
