So you brought a Xbox One for the kids or yourself for and you need to setup Xbox one for Christmas or a Birthday but not sure what to do? Well you only have a few days to set it all up so you can play it on the day. Yes that’s right it may take that long….
It’s best to look at the Xbox One (also known as a Xbone) as a mini computer that needs regular updates and patches. This is done via either WiFi or an Ethernet. The Xbox One games also require regular updates so be ready to have a lot of Internet data chewed through fast in the initial setups
Quickly Setup Xbox One for Christmas or Birthdays Tutorial
First Step is to turn on your Xbox and go through the steps to register the Xbox One. You will need to sign up for a Microsoft Live account, as each Xbox user needs to have a different email address to register.
The procedure is the same for the Xbox One S 2TB console white.
Next go through the steps to set up wi-fi and update the Xbox one. This may take a few hours depending on your internet speed
Set-Up Xbox One Gamer Tags
One all updates have been done and Xbox one is rebooted its time to set up your gamer tag name and add in extra gamers in your family. One issue I had, was I didn’t have email address for my younger children. As a valid email address is needed for all new Gamer tag users I had to use one of my spare email addresses and as such make myself a few new gamer tags using my birth date rather than theirs.
Google wont let you make an email address for kids as they are under-age.
XBox One Email Addresses and Date of Births
I have also heard that 3rd party subscription services like EA Games look at the age of the Xbox user, and wont let them play most of their games if under-age. Having my email address and birth date in for my whole family gets around this issue but also still allows me to control what they can play and view in the family settings of the Xbox One.
XBox One UPDATE, UPDATE, UPDATE.
When ever you load up a game for the first time you will have to install it and this will take time most probably lots of time. A lot of the more recent Xbox One games require a very large update sometimes in excess of 20GB. Depending on your Internet connection this may take a few days.
Don’t forget to set up each players gamer tag and pick a name carefully as Microsoft only gives you one free name change. Set permissions for each child and get Xbox Live membership which will give you about 4 free games every month. Usually 2 XBox One and 2 XBox 360 Games which can be played on the Xbone. Defiantly worth the subscription.
Live Gold Membership lets you play games online against other people, and you can buy a subscription per month or 12 months which works out cheaper. A new Xbox One usually comes with 14 days free trial subscription.
Some games also come with free trial Live Gold subscription. So if you want to be able to play your Xbox for Christmas get updating NOW.
