I recently heard about the new Dyson tangle-free turbine tool and wondered if it would fit the V6 cordless hand-stick that we have. Now Dyson has a habit of changing the connections for most attachments when they bring out a new version of vacuum cleaners.
It makes life hard if you have many Dyson attachments that you don’t want to repurchase, so some research was required if the entangle free turbine tool would fit or not.
After checking out the main Dyson web page on the Tangle-free attachment I found the compatibility quote that said:
Suitable for most Dyson upright and canister vacuums. Compatible with DC19 onwards, except DC24 and Dyson cordless vacuums.
Now that didn’t make a whole lot of sense. Why not cordless vacuum cleaners? The connection points looked the same, the dimensions were the same but they say not compatible why?
So it was time to do my own research and buy the tangle free. The main reason was due to having girls in the family with long hair, as well as pets like our Alaskan Malamute and a few rabbits with long hair.
It just gets everywhere and it was easier to just grab the Dyson V6 vacuum to clean up any mess from the dog, be it in a room or in the car. The standard motor spinning Dyson head that came with the Cordless Vacuum was constantly getting tangled with pet and human hair.
So the Dyson Tangle free tool was ordered from Amazon, and once it arrived it was put to an extreme test. The results were interesting.

Dyson Tangle Free Turbine Tool V6 Compatibility Review
So the 1st step was to see if the turbine tool would fit the Dyson V6 Hand-stick? Yes, it does, like a glove. The next step was the real-life suction test with human and pet hair on a variety of media like tiles, floorboards, carpet, and long hair rugs.
This is where the turbine tool performed flawlessly except for the long pile shaggy rug. With the tiles, floorboards, and carpet the tangle-free tool attachment worked perfectly. The brushes spun fast and free. When it came to the long hair shag pile rug the spinning bristles started to slow down and then came to a stop. Pushing the turbo button on the back helped keep the turbine tool bristles spinning longer.
Now I have 2 thoughts to this, either there is just not enough overall suction from the Dyson handstick to keep the turbine head spinning, or the long threads of the rug are just too much for the tool. Its meant for vacuums like the Dyson Cinetic Big Ball Animal, which has a suction power rating of 250AW which is over 2x the power of the Dyson V6 Handstick.
So we had a win. The Tangle-free Turbine tool fits the V6 and works well on all short pile carpets and hard floors. With the counter-rotating heads with soft brushes, it will remove hair from carpets and upholstery. As there is no brush bar for hair to wrap around you will have constant suction and less bar cleaning.
Dyson makes a few models of the V6 handheld hand stick, they are:
Dyson Hand-stick models
- Dyson V6 Total Clean
- Dyson V6 Motor-head
- Dyson V6 HEPA
- Dyson V6 Cord-free
- Dyson V6 Motorhead Bagless Cordless Stick Vacuum – Fuchsia/Iron
- Dyson V6 Animal
- Dyson V6 Car+Boat
- Dyson V6 Top Dog
- Dyson V6 Baby+Child
- Dyson V6 Trigger
So both the Handheld and the Hand Stick use the same base unit design, just with different attachments. The V6 replaces the DC35, DC45 model but with more suction power. The Dyson DC45 has a suction power of around 65AW so you can see now how much extra suction the V6 actually has.
So if it has Dyson V6 in its name the tangle free turbine will fit. Such as the basic V6, the Motorhead, the Animal, and the Absolute.
Dyson V6 Run-time
|Dyson V6 Runtime||20 minutes|
|V6 Dyson Suction power||100 AW *|
|V6 Bin volume||0.40 Liters|
|Dyson V6 Runtime Normal / Turbo||20 min / 6 Min|
|Dyson V6 Charge Time to full||3.5 Hours|
* Air watt (air watts) is a measurement unit AW of the effectiveness or suction of vacuum cleaners. This refers to airflow and the amount of power (watts) a vacuum cleaner produces and uses. The higher the better.
Dyson V6 replacement battery
If you would like extra run-time then it’s best to get an extra V6 replacement battery for your Dyson.
This 21.6V Dyson handheld battery is fully compatible with your Dyson V6 DC58, DC 59, DC61, DC62 Animal. It’s also easy to change out. All that is required is a small Philips head screwdriver.
Remove the screw from the neck of your V6 handle and pull out the battery. Reinsert the new battery and continue your vacuum cleaning. For full instructions read here for replacing your Dyson V6 extended battery.
This Li-ion battery has a 2.2Ah real capacity battery rated at 21.6V. Its made with high-quality 18650 cells. Just like your original battery, you will get a run-time of around 15-20 minutes.
All batteries will fail over time so if your original V6 battery is not lasting as long as it once did then this is the battery to get to restore your Dyson vacuum to work like new again.
The Dyson tools compatibility chart above shows that the turbine tool is not compatible with the V6 but looks like I proved them slightly wrong.
Check out the video below on how the Dyson Turbine tool was invented and made.
Dyson Tangle Free Turbine Tool features
Counter-rotating brush heads
The Turbine tool has counter-rotating heads with brushes that quickly removes hair from carpets, floors, and upholstery, so there’s no brush bar for hair to wrap around.
Contact across uneven surfaces
The flexible brush mounting heads bend to maintain full contact across uneven surfaces like tile floors.
Articulating base plate
The articulating base plate of the Tangle free turbine tool ensures that the brushes remain in constant contact with the surface, no matter what angle of the suction hose or hand-held v6 you have.
Brushes positioned further forward
The heads are positioned in such a way that the brushes reach fully to the front and sides of the turbine tool – this helps draw hair and dirt in from all directions.
No brush bar for hair to wrap around
More hair is released straight into the bin rather than being wrapped around the spinning bar like a conventional spinning head vacuum cleaner. It’s the main reason we purchased this rather than the traditional motorized brush bar that was constantly getting tangled and not turning. Check out our fix on How to repair your Dyson V6 brush bar not turning.
Dyson Universal Fit Adaptor 912270-01
Dyson in their wisdom likes to change the vacuum hose fitting connection design, this means your older or newer vacuum attachments may not work together. There is a fix though, it’s called the V6 Universal fit adaptor for your Dyson vacuum cleaner. If you have some older model fittings, you will need this socket changer.
For use with Dyson DC01, DC02, DC03, DC04, DC05, DC07, DC08, DC14, DC18, DC19.
The universal fit adaptor will allow you to use your Dyson floor tools that have a catch connector latch with a Dyson vacuum cleaner that doesn’t have the catch connector, like an older model on the wand or hose.
If you have the new Dyson then check out our post on are Dyson V6 and V7 attachments interchangeable. Don’ throw out your vacuum tools because they don’t fit. Make them fit.
Dyson Tangle free Turbine tool review Conclusion
I love this tool with our V6 Hand-stick, as it’s fully compatible as we now use it as our number 1 tool for cleaning our stairs, cars, and under beds, it’s just perfect. I thought that over time we would have to untangle some hair but it’s been very reliable and tangle-free.
Just as the promotion label says so. It’s very easy to see if the brushes will stall, so you can push down with less pressure if the long pile carpet is a problem. I can now clean my car in half the time, and with less effort. The Dyson turbine tool is small enough to fit in tight spaces and will defiantly replace the majority of your attachments.
